For the past two years, the Internet has been buzzing with rumors of a Genesis GV80 Coupe; however, it has only recently become apparent that Hyundai’s luxury brand is developing a BMW X6 rival. The swoopy SUV has been seen doing cold-weather testing on a frozen lake close to the Arctic Circle. The surprisingly large quad exhaust tips indicate that it is clearly powered by a combustion engine.

Even though these are only a few of the spy shots that our car paparazzi have provided, the prototype appears to already have the entire production body. It could indicate that the official premiere will take place prior to the year’s end. In the interim, Genesis adds additional camouflage to the area behind the rear doors to conceal the majority of the changes compared to the conventionally shaped GV80.

For the sake of (potentially) additional style, the coupe-inspired SUV will lose some rear headroom and possibly cargo space, echoing the Audi Q8 and Mercedes GLE Coupe. It will be more expensive than the regular GV80, which has been available since 2020, if those German models are any indication.

As an aside, another scale model of a large electric SUV, possibly the GV90, was briefly shown in the video alongside the Ioniq 7 and EV9. The zero-emission luxobarge might be available by the middle of the decade if that’s the case. Because the Hyundai and Kia models have already been shown off as concepts, it will undoubtedly occur after its mainstream siblings.
