Latest Update: 2025 MG eHS is expected to launch anytime in 2025.
Leaked images of an upcoming mid-size electric SUV from Chinese automaker MG have emerged, hinting at a potential model named the eHS, slated for debut in 2025. Acting as the successor to the Marvel R, a left-hand drive exclusive electric SUV that has been available in Europe for the past two years, the new eHS takes a departure by being a true MG design from the outset.
In contrast to its predecessor, which was initially crafted by Roewe, a sister brand under MG’s parent company SAIC, the patent images indicate that the forthcoming model will bear the MG badge from its inception. Notably, the eHS is expected to be produced in right-hand drive starting in 2025, paving the way for possible market entries, including Australia.
MG’s decision to shift away from left-hand drive exclusivity suggests a broader global strategy, with Australian executives expressing keen interest in the electric SUV. The eHS joins the ranks of potential contenders in the Australian market, alongside the IM Motors LS6, an electric SUV competing with the likes of the Tesla Model Y, currently under consideration for local showrooms.
Images obtained from the European Intellectual Property Office website showcase the mid-size electric SUV, featuring design elements reminiscent of the MG 5 sedan and the upcoming MG 3 city hatch. A closer look at the tailgate reveals an ’eHS’ badge, positioning the vehicle as an electric counterpart to the petrol-powered MG HS, available in Australia since 2020 and set to undergo a facelift in the coming year.
Interestingly, there’s a bit of naming confusion, as the plug-in hybrid version of the MG HS is still marketed in mainland Europe as the eHS. According to reports from the UK’s Autocar, the upcoming mid-size SUV will ride on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), also known as Nebula, which made its debut beneath the MG 4 electric hatch currently on sale in Australia.
What sets the MSP platform apart is its capability to accommodate battery capacities of up to 150kWh, more than double the size of the 70kWh pack found in the current MG Marvel R. This substantial increase in battery capacity hints at enhanced driving range, potentially surpassing the 370km claimed WLTP range of the existing model. The eHS positions itself as a forward-looking addition to MG’s electric vehicle lineup, offering a glimpse into the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility.
