McLaren’s motorsport division has announced an updated version of its GT3-spec 720S, originally released in 2018. This track-only vehicle, now designated with the “Evo” suffix, has undergone modifications to improve its aerodynamics and durability, and is homologated for the 2023 season. The car features quick-release fastenings for the front bumper and splitter, making it easier for racing teams to replace parts during competitions.

The body panels have been redesigned to enhance downforce and shift the overall balance forward. McLaren has also added a new front hood gurney to provide better balance and cooling. Additionally, the auxiliary lamps have been repositioned for improved visibility during night races. The back of the vehicle boasts a taller wing gurney for increased downforce and an adjustable wing pylon mechanism.

McLaren’s 720S GT3 Evo boasts four-way adjustable TTX40 Öhlins dampers and has received changes to the front and rear upper wishbones. The brakes feature closed face bells to improve disc durability, and new uprights have been added to the 2023 car’s list of upgrades.

McLaren is accepting orders for newly built cars in Evo specification and offering the upgrades as a package for existing models. The GT3 is not the only track-only 720S; the GT3X, an unrestricted version not subject to GT3 class regulations, was released a few years ago.

The 720S will soon be replaced by the 750S, a street-legal car expected to debut in both coupe and convertible body styles this April. The 750S is anticipated to have 740 horsepower from a twin-turbo V8 engine, or 30 more hp than its predecessor. Automotive News has reported that the vehicle will have a starting price of $342,000 and will offer a “perfect blend” of the 720S and the hardcore 765LT.

The 750S will reportedly be McLaren’s final non-electrified model. The production of the 720S ended in January, and its replacement will cost 10 percent more. The car is already sold out in the United States for this year and 2024. A teaser is expected by the end of this month.
