Latest Update: Mini JCW Special Edition arrived in May 2023, with a price tag around $36,999.

Mini has unleashed a limited edition masterpiece, the John Cooper Works Hardtop 1to6 Edition, paying homage to the manual gearbox. With only 999 units available worldwide, this high-performance beauty follows in the tire tracks of the Cooper SE Convertible’s limited run earlier this year. Power remains untouched, with the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine generating 228 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque.

The star of the show is undoubtedly the manual gearbox. Mini had bid farewell to the three-pedal JCW option in 2022, but has recently revived it for the US market, going so far as to establish a driving school in California to impart the art of stick shift driving.

To distinguish the 1to6 Edition from its standard JCW counterparts, Mini has bestowed it with captivating design enhancements. This little powerhouse looks captivating with its all-black appearance. Adorned in Midnight Black paint, the hot hatch receives sporty accents in Piano Black, while a textured grey stripe elegantly breaks up the darkness. Exclusive graphics celebrating Mini’s motorsport legacy, including the iconic tri-color logos on the C-pillar and front fenders, adorn the 1to6 Edition. Complementing the aesthetic are 18-inch Circuit Spoke wheels drenched in Jet Black, accompanied by eye-catching red JCW brake calipers.

Stefanie Wurst, head of the Mini brand, expresses the sentiment behind the 1to6 Edition: “The Mini John Cooper Works models have their roots in motorsport. With the Mini John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition, we are celebrating Mini’s legendary motorsport history and maximizing the brand-typical driving experience.”

Inside the compact cabin, special touches abound. Stepping into the car, the 1to6 logo greets you on the door sills, while the passenger is treated to a 3D-embossed logo on the trim inlay. The driver, on the other hand, is reminded of the exclusivity with a “One of 999” badge positioned left of the steering wheel. The black leather-trimmed manual gear shifter adds a sporty touch, complete with red stitching and background graphic. The iconic Mini central instrument panel boasts red trim, exuding a race-ready vibe. Red ambient lighting sets the mood, while the floor mats, key fob, and Nappa leather steering wheel all proudly bear the 1to6 Edition’s logo. Even the sunroof receives special treatment, featuring a “one of 999” logo.

Making its debut at the Nurburgring 24-hour race on May 20, the 1to6 Edition will showcase its prowess alongside a specially modified version participating in the event. The Bulldog Racing Team, known for their JCW Mini entry last year, will also be in attendance.

This could well be the grand finale for the combustion-engined JCW with three doors. The forthcoming generation of the 3-Door Mini will be exclusively electric, leaving the possibility for the Cooper Hardtop JCW to continue as a five-door variant.
