The Volkswagen ID. Buzz made its global debut more than a year ago, but unfortunately, it hasn’t been available in North America. While other regions have been enjoying this electric van, the long-wheelbase variant will be the one gracing the roads on the western side of the Atlantic. The eagerly awaited North American unveiling is scheduled for June 2, and Volkswagen wants to ensure that this day becomes unforgettable. Teaming up with The National Day Calendar, June 2 will be officially recognized as International Volkswagen Bus Day. This special occasion will undoubtedly be celebrated annually, featuring classic bus gatherings and, of course, the highly anticipated ID. Buzz when it finally arrives in showrooms.

Cameron Batten, the chief communications officer for VW Group in America, emphasized the iconic status of the Type 2 buses, known by various names like Buses, Bullis, or Kombis, and their profound influence on modern culture. He expressed his excitement about introducing the 21st Century electric successor, the ID. Buzz, and the creation of this annual celebration for Volkswagen bus fans and enthusiasts worldwide.

The appearance of the North American ID. Buzz isn’t shrouded in mystery. Having already witnessed the smaller two-row model unveiled for Europe in March 2022, we can expect a similar design with a flat front fascia, sleek headlights, and stylish trim accents. While the prototypes showcased a monochromatic exterior, the larger model will retain the appealing two-tone finishes that add to the charm of this electric vehicle.

However, there are still some uncertainties surrounding the North American variant, particularly its size. Reports suggest that it will stretch an additional 10.6 inches compared to the standard model, which may not sound like much on paper but has a significant impact on the vehicle’s overall dimensions. This extension allows for an extra seat in the back, providing more space and versatility.

Furthermore, it remains unclear whether the increased length will result in a larger battery pack. Currently, the ID. Buzz houses an 82.0-kWh battery, powering a single electric motor generating 201 horsepower. However, it is expected that the North American version will offer a dual-motor configuration with more power, potentially utilizing a larger 111-kWh battery capable of producing 300 horsepower.
