Latest Update: 2025 Porsche Boxster EV is likely to launch by the end of 2024.

Numerous spy shots of the Porsche 718 EV prototypes have surfaced, even though the car won’t be released until 2025. Since the electric motor and battery replace the flat-four and flat-six engines, a new platform dedicated to the zero-emission sports car is required. The car is still in the early stages of development, as evidenced by the extensive camouflage applied to it.

The famous Porsche crest is not visible on the car’s front or wheels, and the rear “PORSCHE” lettering is also absent. However, the brake calipers finished in black spell out the company’s name in white. The charging port is visible in a few spy shots, located above the license plate. Porsche attempted to trick onlookers into believing the car was just a base 718 Boxster by installing a fake central exhaust tip.

In one of the spy shots taken at night, the car was being charged at a Tesla charging point, and the driver was utilizing the front trunk. It’s unclear whether the EV will have a rear trunk like its ICE predecessor or if Porsche will use that area to better package the hardware. Car paparazzi photos also show four prototypes testing together.

The disguised test cars may have a single-motor setup with rear-wheel drive, and a potential dual-motor, AWD-equipped version may come later in the car’s life cycle. Porsche has stated that new underpinnings will be used for the electric Boxster and Cayman successors, but some parts could be borrowed from existing models. The Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, which will be used in the next-generation, electric-only Macan set to launch in 2024, is likely to be used.

There have been no sightings of the electric Cayman, indicating that Porsche may release the Boxster EV first. After the launch of the Macan and 718 duo with no combustion engines, Porsche will introduce a three-row SUV and the next-gen Cayenne as EVs.
