Latest Update: Porsche K1 is a future concept car, likely to be 3 Times Expnesive than Cayenne, and will release around 2027.
In the midst of 2022, Oliver Blume, the head honcho of Porsche, revealed an intention to broaden their lineup. This involved the addition of a brand new, electric-only SUV that will sit majestically above the current Macan and Cayenne offerings. This new creation will be brought to life at Porsche’s Leipzig facility in Germany, aimed at an upscale market with an eye for maximum profitability. Despite the secrecy surrounding this new model, the folks at Autocar are doing their utmost to uncover the details ahead of its much-anticipated market debut slated for 2027.
The upcoming electric SUV from Porsche, touted as the brand’s most luxurious and expensive model yet, is expected to carry a starting price tag of around three times more than the Cayenne. This seven-seater vehicle, known internally by the codename “K1”, is believed to be in development since 2020 on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, a co-creation of Porsche and Audi. The PPE will first make its debut on the next-generation Macan and the Q6 E-Tron, but the electric luxobarge from Porsche is expected to feature an evolved version of the dedicated EV platform.
The three-row SUV is rumored to be equipped with a powerful 920V electric system, featuring quick charging capabilities and a large battery pack with a capacity exceeding 100 kWh. The most efficient version is speculated to offer a range of up to 435 miles (700 km) on a single charge, as per WLTP cycle. Additionally, oil cooling for the electric motors and all-wheel steering, with the capability to turn the rear wheels up to five degrees, are also rumored to be part of the package.
In terms of its appearance, the upcoming electric SUV is expected to flaunt a unique blend of sedan and crossover style, measuring over five meters in length. It’s rumored to boast a gently curved roof, a steeply raked windshield, a compact hood, and a liftback-style tailgate. The K1 is believed to possess true off-road capability, with a dedicated driving mode that significantly elevates the air suspension.
As per reports, the K1 will join Porsche’s lineup of EVs, which includes the Taycan, Macan, Boxster/Cayman, and an all-electric Cayenne expected to arrive in 2026. The latter is anticipated to be smaller and more budget-friendly compared to the three-row model. Oliver Blume has described the K1 as a highly athletic interpretation of an SUV.
When it finally hits the market, North America and China are expected to be the main markets for the K1.
