Ford is already working on a mid-cycle refresh for the F-150. Another black prototype, this time in crew cab form, was caught on camera by our Detroit spy team. The front and rear are still covered in thick camouflage, but the images show a few interesting details.

To begin, we believe this to be an F-150 Lariat equipped with the sport appearance package. Take note of the sliding rear window and side steps, which were absent from our initial sighting of the facelifted F-150 at the beginning of December. A close inspection of the front of this test truck reveals a body-colored bumper hidden behind the white wrap. It also has different wheels. That would go well with a sport package, but it could also just be the case with an all-black test car.

If we remain focused on the front, it appears that the headlights will largely resemble those on the current truck. A double light setup with golden blinkers in the center is plainly noticeable, yet changes to the C-molded lodgings could be possible. It’s possible that the grille will get bigger and go deeper into the bumper. The grille opening appears to be lower than expected by a sharp line in the white camouflage fabric, but to Ford’s credit, these particulars are well concealed.

Luckily, the driver utilizes the brakes while passing the camera. This provides us with a glimpse of a brand-new taillight design featuring a forward-facing vertical line near the lens’s top. Although it is quite distinct from the current F-150, it bears some resemblance to the electric F-150 Lightning’s rear lights. The shape of the taillights as a whole may or may not change, but certain internal components will. Additionally, according to our sources, a multi-function tailgate is concealed beneath the black covers.

What powertrain options will be available are still unknown. Since this is a mid-cycle refresh, there is no reason to believe that the F-150’s existing engine lineup won’t continue. The same is true for the interior, with the exception of a smaller touchscreen and occasional design adjustments.
