Latest Update: New Ge Ford Transit Courier could launch anytime in 2024, with electric powertrain, Increased Dimensions and Load Capacities

The Ford Transit Courier, the smallest model in Ford’s commercial vehicle division, is approaching its tenth year on the market in 2024. As Ford typically keeps its small business vans for around a decade, a successor is likely to be on the horizon. Recent spy photos reveal that development of the new Transit Courier is already in progress, as a prototype of the vehicle has been spotted in Germany covered in camouflage.

This is not the first time that spy photos of the new Transit Courier have been shared. In September of last year, our photographers captured an early test vehicle that had the front fascia of the Puma crossover, but it was not outfitted with its final body and lights. As seen in these latest photos, the body of the prototype appears to be more square and the front fascia is more angular. To some extent, the light commercial van bears resemblance to the smaller Tourneo Connect, which is a rebranded version of the Volkswagen Caddy.

The new Transit Courier will be manufactured at Ford’s Craiova plant in Romania, where the Puma crossover is also currently in production. Both the van and crossover will receive fully-electric versions and Ford aims to have a battery-powered option for all of its commercial vehicles by the mid-decade. The Transit Courier EV will be joining the recently launched Tourneo Custom, which is equipped with a 74-kilowatt-hour battery, with an estimated range of 230 miles (370 kilometers).

Ford has not yet released any official information about the new van, but it is believed that it will be built on a modified version of the Puma’s platform, which is based on the current generation Fiesta. The commercial vehicle has five lug nuts instead of the four lug-nut setup of its predecessor, which could indicate slightly larger dimensions and higher load capacities for the new model. Combustion and electric powertrains are expected to be offered, but specific details have not been announced. It is likely that a 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine will be the primary option before the EV version becomes available.
