Latest Update: 2024 Chery Little Ant arrived in October 2023, with a price tag of $10,500.
China’s dynamic electric vehicle arena has just welcomed a fresh player. Chery New Energy, a celebrated offshoot of the renowned Chery brand, raised the curtains on their latest offering, the two-door Little Ant mini EV, affectionately dubbed the “New Edition,” on October 28.
Adding to the already impressive fleet of Chery New Energy’s electric vehicles, which includes the likes of the QQ Ice Cream and the Wujie PRO, the Little Ant New Edition makes a splash with a price range that’s bound to turn heads: RMB 77,900 to RMB 82,900, or approximately €9,900 to €10,500.
What makes this new iteration stand out, you ask? For starters, it flaunts a vivacious spectrum of seven colors. Whether you’re drawn to a sophisticated shade of gray or a whimsical pink hue, the Little Ant is ready to make a statement. While it retains its compact and plump exterior, measuring 3,242 mm/1,670 mm/1,550 mm with a 2,150 mm wheelbase, it introduces a fresh twist with the Qq logo, bidding adieu to the open grille front face of the Classic Edition in favor of a sleeker closed design.
For those loyal to the previous version, fret not! The iconic trapezoidal grille remains intact, as do the distinctive round headlights. At the rear, a few surprises await, with the logo making way for Chery’s English name, while the beloved round taillights stay put.
A side view presents a delightful sight. The suspended roof design, paired with the elegant 15-inch blackened multi-spoke rims, gives this mini EV a contemporary edge. With an all-aluminum frame in the mix, we’re looking at a modern, albeit diminutive, electric car.
Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by a marvel of minimalism. The fusion of white, pale blue, and black seamlessly complements the tech-savvy features, including a 10.1-inch central control screen and in-car WeChat. Oh, and for those impromptu makeup touch-ups, a 190cm² luminous makeup mirror stands ready to assist. Don’t scoff. It’s the little things that matter, isn’t it? The fact that Chery emphasized the size of the vanity mirror in its promotional materials speaks volumes.
The Little Ant New Edition comes in two power configurations, each with a choice of batteries. The standard version boasts a 36 kW & 95 Nm rear permanent magnet synchronous motor. This version offers a selection of a 25.05 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery with a range of 251 km, a 28.86 kWh ternary lithium battery with a range of 301 km, or a slightly larger 29.23 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack with the same 301 km range. On the other hand, the high-end version features a 56 kW & 150 Nm rear permanent magnet synchronous motor, coupled with the largest 40.3 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, delivering an impressive 408 km range.
The Little Ant won’t be setting any speed records anytime soon – it pledges a top speed of 100 km/h. For those seeking a personalized driving experience, choose from four driving modes, including Eco and Sport. While it supports DC fast charging, it takes 40 minutes to charge the battery to 80%, which, considering the relatively small size of all battery packs, isn’t all that impressive.
What is indeed impressive is the price. Undoubtedly, this is a straightforward, four-seater at best, designed to navigate bustling city streets – and in that capacity, it excels. It’s affordable, effortless to drive, and even if its range is somewhat exaggerated (given the CLTC standards, after all), it remains an excellent choice for urban dwellers. It’s a shame it’s likely to remain exclusive to the Chinese market.
