In the realm of Chevrolet, the Activ trim level stands out with its sporty and outdoorsy vibe. Although it’s currently limited to a few models under the Bow Tie emblem, recent spy photos of a Traverse test vehicle suggest that this may change in the future.

Cruising along the roads of southeast Michigan, the camouflaged crossover caught the attention of car enthusiasts. The Traverse prototype seen earlier this March was clearly an early test vehicle with temporary lights, but this one looks more polished and production-ready. The grille is noticeably more upright and straighter, with slim lights barely visible on the edges, flanking the larger lenses in the center. The chunky fascia at the bottom of the vehicle features red tow hooks and a skid plate, adding to its rugged appearance.

It’s still unclear whether the new Traverse will come equipped with the Activ trim level, but these spy photos suggest that it’s a possibility. Either way, the Traverse’s new design promises to be an exciting addition to the Chevrolet lineup.

Should this be a Chevrolet Tahoe, the off-road features would most likely point to a Z71 trim. However, our sources suggest that what we’re seeing is a new Traverse Activ. Unlike Z71, which is exclusive to heavy-duty body-on-frame trucks, an Activ trim could potentially give the Traverse, a crossover, a more aggressive edge. At the very least, it would bring Chevy up to speed with recent SUV releases such as the Honda Pilot and Toyota Sequoia, which have both embraced rugged styling cues.

Compared to the previous Traverse prototype we’ve seen, this test vehicle has a distinct lower fascia design. Likewise, the rear fascia is also different, featuring quad exhaust outlets at the corners similar to the Corvette Stingray. From the profile, details are concealed under the camouflage wrap, but it seems smaller than the current Traverse. It’s also more angular, indicating a rugged design theme in a compact package, further setting it apart from the Tahoe’s three-row crossover.

Currently, we have limited information on the interior design and powertrain options for the next-generation Traverse, as it is still in the early stages of development. However, recent Chevrolet crossover releases have showcased larger digital displays, which could also be present in the new Traverse.
