The Citroen C3 Aircross has been a highly successful model for the brand with approximately 400,000 global sales to date. Despite being launched in June 2017 and receiving a mid-cycle refresh in 2021, the crossover is now due to be replaced by a second-generation C3 Aircross, which will be vastly different from its predecessor.

Recently released spy photos show a camouflaged prototype of the new C3 Aircross, which appears to be larger and more angular than the current model. Although the final dimensions have not been confirmed, it seems that the new crossover will be taller and longer, with wheels that are closer to the edges and shorter overhangs. While the overall design language has not been revealed, some details can be seen from the photos.

The spy photos of the new C3 Aircross reveal that the front of the car features large headlights, which are visible through the camouflage. There are also slim LED daytime running lights above the headlights, creating a visual connection to the older model. The grille is mostly obscured, but it is clear that there will be two rows of air openings for the radiators.

The back of the car is less visible, but the overall shape is boxier than the first-generation model. The car is equipped with patterned wheels, but they are likely only for camouflage purposes. Interestingly, the new C3 Aircross will retain its suspension design with four lug nuts and drum brakes at the back, at least in the less powerful versions.

According to rumors, the new C3 Aircross will be based on Stellantis’ CMP architecture, which is also used for the Peugeot 2008. Since the Peugeot 2008 is undergoing a mid-life facelift, there could be many shared components between the two models. With Stellantis’ focus on electrification, it is expected that the new C3 Aircross will heavily feature electric powertrains, including a battery-powered model based on the company’s e-CMP battery-electric architecture.
