Fisker’s latest EV offering, the Pear, has hit a snag in its production timeline and will now be delayed until 2025. Henrik Fisker, the CEO and founder of the company, cited undisclosed issues with the battery supplier as the reason for the delay. This news follows Fisker’s recent announcement of cuts in production for their Ocean SUV, which was also attributed to supply chain issues. The company expects to produce 10,000 fewer Ocean SUVs in 2023.

Despite the setbacks, Fisker remains optimistic about the Pear’s potential. The small SUV will have a starting price of $29,900 in the US and £28,000 in the UK, making it an attractive option for consumers seeking affordable EVs in Europe. Fisker touts the Pear’s simplicity and its use of clever software to compensate for the need for hardware. The interior will have no moving parts, and the chassis will be designed with 25% fewer parts than traditional frames. Interestingly, over half of Fisker’s employees work in the software department.

The Pear will be available in two battery variants, one with a range of 483 km and another with a more modest range of 161-241 km. Henrik Fisker believes that many people do not require large battery packs and that range anxiety will become a thing of the past as time goes on.
