Mercedes-Benz is scaling down its range, as evident from the spy pictures above. It is anticipated that the automaker will soon release the new CLE-Class, replacing the two-door C-Class and E-Class models. Our undercover photographers have been tracking the two-door model in both coupe and convertible styles for over a year, and we should be approaching its official launch if the recent photos are any indication.

The vehicle depicted in the pictures below is the AMG CLE63. While Mercedes is still hiding the coupe under full-body camouflage, there are unmistakable indications that this is the AMG. The front camo conceals the performance brand’s Panamericana grille, while the four square tailpipes at the rear, a design reserved for the AMG brand, are clearly visible and protruding through the sporty diffuser.

We anticipate that the AMG CLE63 will adopt the hybrid powertrain from the new AMG C63 S E Performance. In that car, Mercedes paired its 476-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a rear-mounted electric motor for a total of 671 hp. The C63 can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds, and the CLE63 is expected to offer comparable performance.

Mercedes will provide the CLE with a range of powertrain options, including a less powerful AMG CLE53 variant that our photographers have already captured. The remainder of the CLE lineup will feature unique fascias that are less aggressive than those on the AMG trims. The CLE-Class will ride on Mercedes’ MRA-2 platform, which underpins the C-Class, implying that the two models will share powertrains.

The interior of the new CLE-Class is unlikely to differ significantly from what we’ve seen in other recent Mercedes models. Spy shots have revealed a digital instrument cluster behind a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel. Below the HVAC vents on the dashboard, there is a portrait-style infotainment display, which positions the screen lower in the instrument panel.

We expect the new CLE-Class to debut sometime this year. However, the high-performance AMG versions are unlikely to be revealed until early 2024, as Mercedes prefers to stagger the release of a new model’s trims. The automaker is also preparing a convertible version of the new model.
