Latest Update: 2023 NIO ET5 Touring arriving in June 2023, with an expected price around $51,000.
Get ready for an electrifying event happening this Thursday, June 15, at 19:00 Beijing time (13:00 CEST). Brace yourselves, because Nio is about to reveal its very first electric wagon, the magnificent Nio ET5 Touring. Now, before you dismiss it as yet another China-exclusive debut, hold on to your seats, because I have some fantastic news for you!
Just six hours after the Chinese unveiling, Nio will be hosting a dedicated event for our European friends. That’s right, the Touring version of the ET5 is making its way to Europe, and it’s coming sooner than you might think. And if that’s not enough excitement for you, the refreshed version of the Nio ES6, the impressive 5-seat electric SUV, will also join the party.
Of course, all eyes will be on the star of the show, the ET5 Touring. The buzz is so intense that even the renowned Top Gear team is getting involved in the debut, with none other than Ben Collins himself, famously known as The Stig, taking the wheel of the ET5 Touring and subjecting it to rigorous testing. Trust me, this event is shaping up to be one for the books, and you definitely won’t want to miss it.
But why all the fuss about the ET5 Touring, you might wonder? Well, for starters, it’s Nio’s first foray into the world of electric wagons, and let’s be honest, there aren’t that many of them out there. If you do a quick search using our handy EV Finder and select the “estate” body style, you’ll be greeted with a mere 15 results. Among them, you’ll find three models of the MG5, eleven variations of the Porsche Taycan, and a solitary Audi A6 Avant e-tron. So technically, we’re looking at just two vehicles, and one of them is still a long way off.
But fear not, because the Nio ET5 Touring is no ordinary ride. It’s not to be compared to the MG5. With its mighty 360 kW (489 hp) AWD powertrain, it boasts a power output that falls only 30 kW short of the Porsche Taycan 4S Sport Turismo. Both cars accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a jaw-dropping 4 seconds. And when it comes to range, the ET5 Touring equipped with its smallest 75 kWh battery can go for an impressive 456 km, a mere 15 km more than its Porsche counterpart.
Sure, the Porsche Taycan offers a wider array of versions with greater power, but the ET5 Touring and ET5 sedan come with one powertrain option. However, they do offer two additional battery choices. You can go for the 100 kWh battery, which grants you a range of 590 km, or wait for the highly anticipated 150 kWh semi-solid state pack, which promises a mind-boggling 1,000 km range
