As Rivian gears up to unveil its compact SUV, the R2, on the horizon, it’s evident that their larger kin, the R1T and R1S, aren’t left idling. Fresh off the drawing board, both models have received a battery makeover, injecting a dose of affordability into their lineup.

Introducing two newcomers to the fold: the Standard and Standard+ trims for both the R1S and R1T. Meanwhile, the Standard+ trim offers a tad more versatility, accommodating both the 533 hp standard powertrain and the punchier 665 hp Performance version. Equipped with a 121 kWh battery, this option flaunts an extended range of up to 315 miles with the 533 hp setup, provided you stick with the standard 21” wheels adorned with road-friendly tires. Opting for the more extravagant 22” rims shaves the range to a still respectable 300 miles, while the rugged allure of 20” wheels paired with all-terrain tires is reserved exclusively for the 655 hp variant, offering a range of 280 miles.

With these fresh battery options, the R1T and R1S now flaunt a quartet of configurations, standing alongside the existing Large trim with its capacious 135 kWh battery, and the Max option boasting a mighty 149 kWh power pack. Notably, both the R1S and R1T Standard variants now qualify for a partial EV federal tax credit of $3,750, marking them as the most budget-friendly Rivians to date.
