Latest Update: 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness launched in April 2023, with a starting price of $31,995. 

Subaru has always been synonymous with all-weather traction and off-road capability, and now, the Japanese automaker is pushing the boundaries even further with the arrival of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness, which is making its debut at the New York International Auto Show.

Boasting enhanced trail capability and a thrilling driving experience, the Crosstrek Wilderness comes equipped with unique suspension components, modified bodywork with added cladding for added durability, and all-terrain tires that offer improved grip in snow and dirt. These features complement the standard Crosstrek’s torque-vectoring all-wheel drive and X-Mode off-road driving feature perfectly, ensuring the vehicle can conquer even the toughest terrain. Plus, the standard 2.5-liter flat-four engine (which is shared with the Crosstrek Sport and Limited trims) provides class-competitive power to help you overcome any obstacles in your way.

Inside, the Crosstrek Wilderness features standard StarTex synthetic leather upholstery, which is water-resistant and easier to clean than both cloth and genuine leather. The cabin is also fitted with all-weather floor mats and a cargo mat, providing further protection. The Wilderness badge is embossed onto the headrests, and the headliner and pillar trim are blacked out, giving the vehicle a sleek, sporty look. The center console and steering wheel are accented with bronze accents, adding a touch of elegance to the interior. And, like all Crosstrek models (excluding the base model), a large 11.6-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration comes standard.

Under the hood, the Crosstrek Wilderness is powered by a 2.5-liter flat-four engine, which is mated to a standard CVT. The engine produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, making it more powerful than the 2.0-liter found in the base and Premium models. However, compared to the Jeep Compass’ new turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 (which produces 200 hp and 221 lb-ft) and the Ford Bronco Sport’s 1.5-liter turbo three (which produces 181 hp and 190 lb-ft), the Crosstrek Wilderness may feel less agile when fully loaded with passengers and gear. Nonetheless, the added transmission cooler increases the vehicle’s towing capacity to 3,500 pounds, compared to 2,000 pounds in other Crosstrek models, providing added protection when you need to tow heavy loads.
