The Suzuki Swift has reached its seventh year in the third-generation model, a typical lifespan for a car. It’s no surprise then that a transition to the next generation is on the horizon. Ahead of its full debut at the end of the month, a concept car is making its preview appearance at the Japan Mobility Show, hosted at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center.

Officially dubbed a concept car, it gives off an impression of being very close to the upcoming production version. Familiar yet different, there are noteworthy changes to note. Firstly, the rear door handles have been relocated from their higher C-pillar position to the conventional spot. The profile now boasts fixed glass in the rear doors, a new prominent character line that spans from front to rear, and a “Hybrid” badge on the front fender, accompanied by a camera mounted at the bottom of the side mirrors.

The front fascia presents itself more as a facelift rather than an entirely new generation. It features a refreshingly compact grille housing a top-mounted radar sensor and a camera below it. The Suzuki emblem no longer resides in the grille; instead, it graces the bumper. The visibly shorter hood appears rounder in outline, while the headlights have undergone subtle reshaping. Unlike many modern cars, the 2024 Swift retains separate fog lights.

For now, Suzuki is keeping the rear end of the small hatchback under wraps. However, from the cutouts in the camouflage, it seems that the 2024 Swift will sport wider taillights extending onto the tailgate. It will maintain the low-mounted rear light beneath the license plate and the horizontal red reflectors on the bumper’s sides. The concept model set for the Japan Mobility Show will feature a right-hand-drive layout, but spy shots reveal that the prototype tested in Europe had a left-hand-drive configuration.

Suzuki may have plans to introduce its B-segment car to Europe, where Ford unexpectedly discontinued the Fiesta. Additionally, the Volkswagen Group initially considered discontinuing the Polo, Ibiza, and Fabia due to stricter emissions regulations. However, with the relaxation of the Euro 7 regulations, this outcome appears less likely.
